The short answer
Lunar New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6. Flowers in red, pink, orange, and gold are traditionally associated with luck and prosperity, making them a warm gift for family visits and new-year celebrations.
Golden Hour Blooms Co., a wildflower florist in Markham, makes Lunar New Year bouquets from $50. Order a week or more ahead.
Lucky colours for the new year
- Red. The colour of luck and celebration.
- Pink and peach. Associated with blossoms, romance, and new beginnings.
- Orange and gold. Linked with wealth and prosperity.
Traditional new-year flowers and plants include plum and peach blossoms, orchids, pussy willow, and kumquat trees. In a bouquet, we echo that spirit with the best winter stems available, such as ranunculus, tulips, and spray roses.
Gifting etiquette to keep in mind
- Skip all-white bouquets. White is traditionally associated with mourning in many Chinese and East Asian cultures.
- Mind the number four. Many families avoid it, since it sounds like the word for death in Chinese. Tell us it's for Lunar New Year and we'll plan accordingly.
- Bring colour. Bright, full, and abundant feels right for a new-year gift.
"A new year deserves something fresh and full of colour on the table."
