The short answer
Garden-style floral design arranges flowers the way they grow in nature: varied stem heights, mixed textures (blooms, grasses, herbs, and foliage), asymmetry, movement, and room between stems.
It's the opposite of compact, dome-shaped traditional design, and it's the foundation of the wildflower look.
The core idea: follow the garden
In a real garden, nothing grows at one height in a perfect dome. Flowers reach, lean, and layer. Grasses catch the light between them. There's air and movement everywhere.
Garden-style design turns those observations into technique. Instead of forcing a shape onto the stems, the designer follows what each stem naturally wants to do.
The five signs of garden-style work
- Varied heights. Focal blooms sit low, with airy elements dancing above.
- Mixed textures. Petals beside seed heads beside herbs. The contrast is the point.
- Asymmetry. Balanced, but never mirrored. Like nature.
- Room to breathe. Space between stems so each one can be seen clearly.
- Movement. Curved stems and trailing pieces that suggest a breeze, even indoors.
"The designer's job isn't to control the stems. It's to listen to them."
Garden-style vs wildflower style: any difference?
They're close cousins. "Garden-style" names the design technique. "Wildflower style" names the result: the loose, meadow-gathered look. Our work sits right where the two meet, which we explain further in wildflower vs traditional bouquets.
Why it matters for your order
Knowing the style sets the right expectations. Your arrangement will be loose on purpose, beautifully imperfect, and different from anyone else's, because it's built from that week's best stems, by hand, at one table. Here's exactly what to expect when it arrives.
Does garden-style cost more?
Not with us. It's simply how we work. Every arrangement comes in our three standard sizes:
| Size | Price | Stems |
|---|---|---|
| First Light | From $50 | 8 to 10 stems |
| Softest Hour | From $70 | 10 to 14 stems |
| The Whole Meadow | From $125 | 14 to 18 stems |
